Your Teen in Therapy
Let’s talk about your role
If you’ve landed here, you’re most likely the parent or caregiver of a teen who could use some extra support. The fact that you’re here, looking for the right fit, already says a lot about how much you care.
We know that trusting your teen’s inner world to someone else can feel vulnerable- for both of you.
This is how we approach that balance:
Teens do their best work in therapy when they feel safe being honest, which means the specific content of their sessions stays confidential. What we do share with parents, when appropriate, is general progress, themes, and any recommendations for support at home. This is typically discussed between you, your teen, and the clinician at the beginning of the therapy.
If we ever have a safety concern- anything involving risk of harm to your teen or someone else- we will always loop you in.
In California, teens 12 and older have some legal rights to confidential care, and we’ll walk you through exactly what that means for your family during the first session. Our goal is for everyone – you and your teen- to feel clear and comfortable with how we handle communication from day one.

We will discuss our confidentiality policy in detail during your initial consultation.
